Modern Hieroglyphs

Isotype is can be called modern hieroglyphs. Egyptians started used hieroglyphs so long ago to communicate to with each other. It is very interesting that we use picture symbol to communicate today. Egyptians used to hieroglyphs to communicate mostly among themselves. However using isotype had widened our door to communicate internationally. Advantage of using isotype is that people can understand the sign quickly instead of reading about what it is about. For example we can understand isotype of warning sign faster than us trying to read about why we should be cautious. Isotype can be not only use for signs but also for map, and things individuals would like to represent. They can be used for personal reasons, educational, map, public places, statistic charts and to communicate internationally.

The Swastika

The Swastika

For many years I thought the swastika and Buddhism symbol were the same. Then I realize swastika is more angular.

Some symbols can be so over powering than others. This symbol Swastika is such a powerful and bold symbol where you can simply over look as many other symbols. It does not matter if the symbol or logo is a good design or not what matter is what the symbol represents in long term. What people know the symbol as. Meaning of svastika is wellbeing, good fortune, and luck. However it does not represent this symbol as those good meaning due to Nazis crime against humanity. They put such a great stain over this symbol that it can never be remove. I believe this symbol will stay strong and powerful which represents evil and hate.

The Peace Symbol

The Peace Symbol

It was interesting to learn about history of the symbol. I am curious to know how many people have thought that this symbol is controversial. I have heard that this symbol associate with Satanism but I didn’t really believe it until I read this reading material. There are so many items, clothes, and fashion items, school supplies with peace symbol on it. What do they all represent? Should we just accept the symbol as happy and peace? It is interesting to know how this little symbol can represent good or evil. They are so opposite from each other. However, I am glad to know that once this symbol was adopted by CND its meaning was forever changed to protest in the service of humanity; anti war, ecology, civil rights, peace and freedom group.

The new AT & T logo (November 21, 2005)

While I was reading symbol: The Alphabet of Human Thought, I found it to be very interesting to learn about different symbols and logos and how they communicate without words. Also how some logos went through changes to draw peoples attention. I thought of At&t how their logo have changed through out the times. The logo used to be a bell, then totally changed to a globe wanting the company to be worldwide. The most recent logo feel new century it has 3D feel also at&t is written in lower case to create friendly feel to it.
